Korean equipment versus European: what you get

The most noticeable difference when importing from Korea is rarely the price of the car itself. It is what is included in it.

5 min readThe Korea Cars BG team

Cars built for the Korean domestic market often come with equipment that is a paid package in Europe — leather, ventilated seats, driving assistants, a larger screen. A comparison between a Korean and a European car is therefore only fair when it is made between two specific cars with itemised equipment and a final price, not between two models.

What is usually standard

Cars for the Korean domestic market often come with high equipment levels — leather, ventilated seats, driving assistants, a larger screen. In Europe the same items are paid extras.

What to check

The navigation and infotainment are set up for Korea. Check what changes on registration in Bulgaria and what stays in Korean.

The radio and some of the connectivity systems may need adjusting after the import.

How to compare honestly

Compare not model with model but one specific car with another — with a final price after all costs and the equipment itemised. Only then is the difference real.

Frequently asked questions

Why do Korean cars have more extras?
Because trim levels for the Korean domestic market are put together differently: items that are a separately paid package in Europe are often part of the standard equipment of the corresponding trim there.
Does the infotainment work in Bulgarian after import?
It depends on the model and the year. Some systems switch to English, others stay in Korean. This is settled for the specific car before the order.
